Introduction to
The mommy makeover has five basic elements, which we will address here. But first, let’s be clear: Not every cosmetic surgeon is qualified to be a mommy makeover surgeon. While many talented surgeons can perform these elements separately, few can effectively combine them into the mommy makeover procedure because the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
A mommy makeover surgeon should be a board-certified plastic surgeon, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). He or she should be experienced in all five areas of the mommy makeover. Your surgeon should be knowledgeable, experienced, a good listener, someone with technical skills but also artistry – and most important, caring. Caring means that your surgeon wants you to be happy with the surgical results and has a personal need to do his or her best in every surgery on every patient.
It is also highly recommended that your surgeon should be a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and/or the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Finally, he or she should show you before and after mommy makeover pictures of his or her work. Here, as in most aspects of life, you have to go with your gut feelings.
At our Plastic Surgery Center, you can benefit from a Honolulu mommy makeover surgeon who knows how to put the following procedures together:
At Mommy Makeover Hawaii, our Mommy Makeover patients have been able to enjoy the following benefits from their procedure:
Many women who have experienced one or more pregnancies and who are dissatisfied with the changes pregnancy has brought to the face, body, and self-esteem may be candidates for part or all of the mommy makeover. However, it is often recommended that women postpone tummy tuck surgery until they have completed all childbearing. Women who are thrilled with their new babies are not always thrilled with the changes in their bodies and faces. One of my patients told me her reason for doing the mommy makeover was not to attain perfection, but to attain freedom from debilitating insecurities – and this captures the essence of the procedure perfectly.
First Steps
The first step in getting a Mommy Makeover in Hawaii is to schedule your consultation. In your initial appointment, you will meet with Dr. Schlesinger who will evaluate your health, examine your body, and explain which surgical procedures and techniques are most appropriate for you, including the risks and limitations of each procedure. It’s important to be open and honest with Dr. Schlesinger and be sure to tell him if you smoke and if you’re taking any medications, vitamins, or other drugs.
Using this information, Dr. Schlesinger will create your custom surgical plan and if you agree with it, our Patient Coordinator will be able to help you choose the best date and time for your Mommy Makeover. Before you leave, you will also be provided some instructions that will prepare you for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. While making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you out for a few days, if needed.
On the day of your Mommy Makeover, Dr. Schlesinger will perform your surgery with you under anesthesia. Depending on what you discuss during your consultation, this could be in the form of intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. After you are under sedation, your Mommy Makeover surgery will begin.
When you have your consultation with Dr. Schlesinger, he will go into better detail about what you can expect on the day of your surgery depending on what combination of surgeries you will have. For a better idea of what each surgery consists of, please see their respective pages:
After your surgery, your incisions will be sealed and covered with a gauze or bandage to prevent infection and minimize swelling. Once you are released, you will be able to return home to recover, but you will need a competent adult around to aid you with some basic tasks during your initial stages of healing, as you will be sore and unable to lift anything too heavy. Each patient will have a different recovery experience based on how they respond to the surgeries and the combination that they get. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your recovery process or timeline, please bring this up during your consultation with Dr. Schlesinger.
What is the cost?
The cost of a Mommy Makeover is entirely based on the combination of procedures you get, including a few other factors. The best way to find out how much your surgical costs will be is to have your consultation with Dr. Schlesinger and allow him to create your procedure plan. Once this is made, our Patient Coordinator will be able to provide you with a complete price breakdown.
