Introduction to
Botox is a non-surgical series of injections that reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face by reducing muscle activity in the treatment area. As of 2007, Botox injection is the most common cosmetic operation, with 4.6 million procedures in the United States, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons).
Botox is a purified form of the protein found in the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. The amount of this protein in one Botox injection bottle is not enough to make you sick, but it is enough to reduce the muscle movement in the muscles causing your lines and wrinkles. Botox treatments are proven effective, but botox is not a permanent procedure.
If you are looking for Botox treatments to lessen your wrinkles, there are some things to learn about the procedure. Botox will not treat lines and wrinkles that do not result from muscle movement. Wrinkles in your face resulting from a loss of elasticity in your skin will not respond to Botox, but more common lines such as frown lines and crow feet which are brought upon by repeated movements can effectively be treated with Botox.
When you go for your treatment, you need to be aware that you will not see results for at least a day or two, but within one week, you will have a visible reduction in the treated areas, giving your skin a smoother appearance. These results can last up to four months (this depends greatly on the patient and the technical skill of the surgeon), but you will likely need to repeat your treatment to keep the lines from returning.
Dysport is an injectible anti-wrinkle treatment that is closely related to Botox. Dysport is available at all of our Honolulu, Hawaii facilities. It is a newly approved treatment in the US (as of April 2009), but has been used in Europe for several years. Dysport shares some chemical similarities to Botox, but while it is based upon the same protein from which Botox is made, the two treatments differ slightly. Some European studies indicate a slightly longer duration of effect with Dysport. However, no thorough US-based studies have yet been completed.
Dysport acts on the muscles in the forehead to alleviate creases and lines caused by squinting or frowning. You need to discuss with plastic surgeon S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS to see if Dysport is the right choice for you.
Dysport is given in a series of injections that are made from the Clostridium botulinum toxin type A. This protein in Dysport immobilizes the muscles around your forehead, preventing you from frowning and over the course of a week, with most patients, the forehead frown lines will diminish or disappear. The frequency with which you will need to repeat injections should be discussed with S. Larry Schlesinger, MD, FACS at any of our Hawaii facilities.
Dysport is designed to reduce forehead wrinkles. These develop as the skin in your face loses its elasticity as you age, and frequent squinting, laughing, and frowning cause permanent creases in your forehead. Within one week of treatment, most patients see visible improvement in wrinkles following Dysport treatment.

If you are interested in BOTOX or Dysport in Hawaii, but wondering if you are a good candidate, here are some basic qualifications:
First Steps
If you’re interested in getting a BOTOX or Dysport in Honolulu, HI, the first step is to schedule a consultation at Mommy Makeover Hawaii. When you come in, you will meet with either Dr. Schlesinger or a trained injector who will listen to your desires for the treatment and discuss your medical history, during which you should be honest and clear to get the most out of your injections and prevent any potential risks or side effects.
Your provider will examine your face and discuss the differences between your injectable options. Once the two of you agree on the type and what the overall aesthetic goals are, your customized treatment plan will be made. If you would like, we can administer your injection immediately following your consultation. If for any reason you would like to reschedule for another day, our Patient Coordinator will be more than happy to help you find a time that better fits your schedule.
The treatment itself is quick, just under 5 minutes, allowing you to undertake the procedure over a lunch hour; you will most likely be able to return immediately to your job after BOTOX or Dysport treatment. Contrary to popular belief, it is unlikely that you will have an unnatural appearance following Injectables treatment. You will still enjoy normal facial expressions such as raising your eyebrows and blinking.
Once you are finished with your treatment, you will be able to return to your normal routine. In fact, most patients are even able to go back to work right after injections. The most important things to avoid for at least the first six hours are exercise, laying flat, being upside down, or vigorously rubbing the area. If you try to reapply makeup, you should be incredibly gentle. Any vigorous application can push the toxin into unwanted areas which can cause other, more serious problems. There will often be mild redness and sometimes mild protuberance for 10 – 60 minutes at the injection sites. The results usually take up to seven days but some patients may start to see improvements earlier.
What is the cost?
The cost of BOTOX in Hawaii will be determined by many factors, such as the type of injectable used, the areas injected, and the amount needed to produce the desired results. After you and your provider discuss everything during your consultation and your treatment plan is made, our Patient Coordinator will be able to give you an accurate breakdown of the price of your treatment.
